Unfinished Colourings

Mixed media — large canvases, acrylic.

The Unfinished Colourings are a series of large, richly coloured canvases that are deliberately left incomplete. The paint, a mosaic of colours, does not quite cover them — leaving it to the artist, or to the eye, to carry on.

Unfinished Colouring No. 5 by George Sculpteur — mixed media on canvas

The inspiration

This work summons the playful, mischievous spirit of Dada and Surrealism, which George claims as her own. Segmented narratives, journeys through the references of art history, they are nourished by her entire universe and paced by the rhythm of her encounters.

A universe of her own

Within this mastered chaos can be read her freedom to thwart the accepted codes of drawing, colour and form. Most of the figures of her dream world appear there — portraits of women, small animals, objects of childhood, the Doodles — surfacing through a joyful, richly ornamented graphic disorder. Finished works, then, but “open” ones: the reveries and references of each viewer resonate with those of the artist.
